With the slogan ‘Shuddha Sangeet-er Bishshayane’, the 8th edition of ‘Citycell-Channel i Music Awards’ will be held in a grand way at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong tomorrow.
Jointly arranged by Channel i and Citycell, the award giving ceremony is an endeavour to honour musical talents of Bangla music.
According to the organisers, this is the second and final phase of the programme which is expected to be star-studded and packed with music-lovers from across the country.
Popular singers and musicians from Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives and Sri Lanka will also be awarded at the programme.
Stage performers, singers and dance artistes from home and abroad will perform at the glitzy show.
Earlier on 10 January, this year’s ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ was conferred, through a grand programme, on Indian singer Geetashree Sandhya Mukherjee, a mellifluous voice of Bangla music and internationally-acclaimed Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila.
The first phase of the programme was held at the Ballroom of Oberoi Grand Hotel in Kolkata, India.
This year, the awards will be conferred on in 16 categories. The categories are classical music (both vocal and instrumental); Rabindra Sangeet; Nazrul Sangeet; folk songs; Adhunik Sangeet; motion picture soundtrack; band music; underground band; songwriting; new artiste (male/female); sound engineering; cover design; music direction; music video and lifetime achievement awards.
Besides, there will be five awards more – Band music; Adhunik Sangeet; motion picture soundtrack; new song and fusion – based on popular choice or viewers’ votes through SMS. This time five private radio stations – abc radio, Radio Today, Radio Amar, Dhaka FM and Peoples’ Radio – are going to judge the popular choice categories.

The grand finale was scheduled to be held on February 24 but it was rescheduled for tomorrow due to hartal.
